At the Department of Art History, we offer a welcoming learning environment characterised by small class sizes, a friendly atmosphere and cross-disciplinary approaches. With a focus on modern and contemporary art, as well as architecture, all of our lectures are taught with global, transcultural, and transreligious perspectives in mind.

All classes of the international module ART – History. Theory. Projects. are taught in English. In combination with compulsory introductory and cross-cultural courses (KULIS), the art lectures provide a vibrant blend of theoretical topics and practice-oriented content. The international module covers a wide array of topics, ranging from lectures on Art History to specific issues of modern and contemporary art such as art mediation and visual analysis.

Study!

The international module is open for Bachelor and Master students in the various fields of Art. A good command of English (at least B2 level) is required, but no previous knowledge of German is necessary. Students can earn up to 25 ECTS per term.

You will take part in an orientation program called KULIS Courses, which are designed to ease the transition into university in Austria and build foundational knowledge.

In the art lectures, you will be studying together with regular students of our BA and MA programmes in the fields of Art History and Philosophy. This setting offers the chance to form new connections with fellow students.

If you want to earn more than 20 ECTS, there are a range of optional courses in the field of Art and Philosophy to choose from.
